 Lakeside 20-24th May 2002

Year 5 spent a wet but wonderful week at the YMCA National Centre at Lakeside on Lake Windermere.

Sleeping in tents and enjoying three activity sessions each day all the children met and overcame personal and team challenges during the week.

Activities included:

  • Negotiating a ropes course

  • Riding a runway "ZIP Wire" over water

  • Orienteering

  • Canoeing in open Canadian style canoes

  • Climbing on an indoor climbing wall

  • Abseiling down a tall tree

  • An 'Earthwalk' - getting close to nature

  • Paddling a large canoe (14 people) to the Lakeland Aquarium

  • Walking to and visiting a Victorian bobbin mill

  • Archery

  • Negotiating an obstacle course

  • Flying through the trees on the "King Swing"

  • Kayaking

  • A camp fire for the whole party

  • Rock Climbing and Abseiling 'real rocks'

All the children were a credit to themselves and the school the whole time and kept up high spirits despite very wet conditions with heavy downpours and sometime thunder and lightening
