Friends Of Grendon School
Who we are
Our logo was designed by Natalie Malewicz (Year
3)
Frogs
stands for the Friends of Grendon School and was set up in 1997, but
there was a parent teacher association long before then. Basically we
are a group of parents and teacher representatives who organize events
and raise much needed funds for the school. The funds are spent on extra
equipment and resources. The social events we organize enable parents
and children to meet and get to know one another. This is important
given the geographical extent of the school’s catchment area.
Every parent of a child attending the school is a Frog.
Recently we registered as a charity and in doing so have
signed up to abide by charity law. We have six appointed trustees who
are there to ensure that the money is spent responsibly. The committee
is made up of chair, treasurer and secretary plus committee members. We
have an AGM at the beginning of the Autumn term to elect the committee.

What we do?
Together we organize a variety of fundraising events. So
far this year we have organized a hot dog lunch, Christmas shop,
Christmas raffle, mufti day, fashion show, Christmas and Easter disco,
coffee mornings, tuck shop at the film nights, pamper evening and more
recently the Summer Fete.
Also, we collect the Nestle box tops from cereal packets
and the Persil stars. We purchase books and art materials with these
vouchers. Collection boxes are in the foyer.
The other side to the fundraising is actually spending
the money. So far this year we have contributed towards the playground
markings, bought new staging for the New Hall, an interactive
whiteboard, 5 a side football posts, football training ladders, books
for the library, glokenspiels for the choir, play equipment for the
playground, updated the play boxes the children use at wet breaks and
constructed a new long jump pit.
We get ideas or ‘wishes’ about how to spend the money
from the teaching staff, parents and the children via the School
council. The ‘wishes’ are discussed at each Frogs meeting. If you have
any ideas just speak to a committee member or leave a note in our pigeon
hole.
How we communicate with you
We write regularly in the weekly newsletter, we have a
noticeboard in the foyer opposite the staffroom and an outside
noticeboard near the school entrance. We write a Frogs newsletter each
term. Frogs meetings are held approximately once a month and we usually
meet at The Swan Public House in Grendon Underwood. Meeting dates are
always included in the weekly newsletter. You are welcome to attend any
meeting.

How you can get involved
How involved you get is entirely up to you. You may want
to be included on our ‘willing helper’ list which means you are happy
for us to contact you to help out at an event. You may want to be a
committee member where you become involved in planning the events. Just
come along to the next meeting, speak to a committee member or leave a
note in the pigeon hole.
However, involved you get, it will be a great way to:
-
Fundraise for extra equipment and resources to
enrich our children’s education
-
Get to know other parents, staff and children
through a range of social activities
-
Find out more about how the school works
-
Have some fun along the way and learn something new
yourself.
