Our Trip to Birmingham Museum

On Wednesday 12th of November 2003 Year 6 went to Birmingham Museum to find out about Ancient Egypt and Ancient Egyptian artefacts. Not all of us went on the bus because there was no room, so.... 9 children went in the train instead! Here they are: Jason Easton, Kelly Batchelor, Amy Kimber, Sophie Nolan, Megan Ellison, Jamie Lipop, Jacob Wilson, Callum Begley and Charlotte Fisher.

Here is what happened...

The train ride was shorter than all of us expected, which was about an hour. We played pen and paper games and talked constantly. Time went really quickly and before we knew it we were at Birmingham. The building was massive and there were so many steps we didn't know where to go!

Firstly, we headed off towards the Egyptian gallery with a partner to try and complete work sheets all about Egypt and Ancient Egyptian artefacts. I felt very anxious that we were not going to finish the sheet on time! We learnt a lot, and this it something to prove it! : What is a wooden staff?

Well, a wooden staff is a farming tool that the Ancient Egyptian farmers used. Good eh?

After we had completed the work sheets, some of us (including me!) went to try on some masks, and I really liked them, because they changed your appearance and looked very funny. We realized that different masks represented different emotions, such as protection, anger, happiness and so on.

After we went to see the masks, we had lunch in a medium sized room, whereas the people who travelled on the bus ate their lunch on the way back to school. Then we went to the shop and I saw a lovely decoration for only 50p so I bought it! Some people stayed outside the shop and waited, because they didn't want to buy anything.

Finally we visited a 1948 living room and a 1960 kitchen. They had no electricity. I couldn't live without a microwave! It was very interesting.
The train journey back was just as quick as when we got there, although we had to scurry on towards the station, otherwise we were going to be late!

I really enjoyed the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, and would recommend it to any one who wants to find out things. I found it really useful and everyone had a good day out.

Birmingham Museum

By Jason Easton

I was one of nine people who went to the museum on the train, because we didn't have enough room on the bus. The other eight people where Sophie Nolan, Jacob Wilson, Jamie Lipop, Megan Ellison, Kelly Bachelor, Amy Kimber and Callum Begly.

The Museum and its exhibits

The museum was vast and had many exhibits, but of course, we couldn't possibly view all of them, but we still saw some amazing stuff. We went to the Ancient Egypt exhibits where we saw some cool mummies. Then we went to the exhibit of emotions and feelings. We tried on some goofy masks we looked really stupid, and felt weird.
After that we went to the shop for half an hour, where we got some funky stuff. We sat out side and waited for the others to catch up before we went for lunch. We loved the 1940's room; we sat in an original 1940's chair. We made a quick dash for the train and just caught it.

All in all, we had a good time and learned loads.
