This week was planned by the Art coordinator, Mr Williams. The aim was to highlight the work of some of the major artists and produce some large pieces of work to create a gallery in the New Block corridor. Each class studied an artist and over the period of a week, practised using the techniques, colours and subjects in their own pictures. Groups of children worked on different aspects of the large piece and the others designed and practised on paper. Ideas boards were created to store ideas and colour schemes as well as works by the artist to refer to. The staff were given ideas on how to organise the work and create the pictures from Mr Williams in a staff meeting and supported by him during the week. Each teacher was helped to choose an artist whose work interested them and was achievable by the age of the children in the class. Nearly every class had the offer of help from parents who were able to work with the group on the main picture and this really helped the children achieve attention to detail. We want to thank all the parents who helped during the week.

This
picture is in the style of Robert Delaunay.
I like art week because it's nice to be creative.

We learnt about Robert and Sonia Delaunay.
They did beautiful pictures or patterns and shapes which are different colours.

Year 4J
Three pictures by Pablo Picasso are combined to create a picture that depicts a cat which has caught a bird in the garden hedge. The ball taken from another picture represents the child who plays in the garden, but isn't there at the moment. The third element is what the children called the snowflakes.
When Picasso was in a good mood he painted nice things
and when he was in a bad mood he painted nasty pictures.
